A new asphalt driveway is an investment — a little care in the first few months keeps it looking and performing like new for years to come.

KEEP IT LOOKING FRESH
WHAT TO DO
Give it time to cure. Stay off with vehicles for 3–5 days; hold off parking for up to 2 weeks.
Drive gently. Slow starts, slow stops, wide turns — sharp steering while stationary scuffs the surface.
Cool it down in summer heat. A quick hose-down on hot days helps it firm up faster.
Get it seal coated. Best around 90 days after paving, within a year at the latest.
Keep edges trimmed and supported. Cut back grass and weeds; backfill exposed edges.
Fill cracks as they show up. A few hairline cracks each spring are normal here — seal them.
WHAT TO AVOID
Don't park in the same spot every time during the first season - rotate for even curing.
Don't let oil or gas sit. Clean spills right away; park leaky vehicles elsewhere.
Don't leave heavy items in one spot. Slide plywood under jacks and tires for long-term parking.
Don't park within 6 inches of an edge. Edges lack support and can crack under weight.
Don't worry about uneven texture. Slight variations in sand and stone are completely normal.
Don't ignore small cracks. Left alone they let in water and worsen over winter.
